Quick tips when searching for a job

Salestarget.co.uk advertises thousands of the latest sales jobs. To find the perfect role for you, it pays to use all the search fields available.

"In sales, job titles don't tell us much," says Mike Convey, Salestarget.co.uk website director. "One company's 'executive' is another firm's 'manager' To have a 50% better chance of finding the best-matched jobs first time, users of Salestarget should always search using their ideal salary range, job location and a specialist keyword; such as software. For an even more accurate search jobseekers should also select the industry sectors they are interested in."

In fact, using these three fields improves your chances of finding the right job by 50%.

Location

Enter in where you want to work. You can be as specific as a postcode or as general as a country.

If you misspell a city, the search engine will try to suggest close matches.

Basic salary

In the salary field, specify the salary you want before commission. Remember, because it’s before commission, you may want to keep it at a low value so you are not excluding jobs with high and regular earning potential.

Keywords

Here is where it pays to think like a recruiter. Type in the keywords or terms that are important to the job you’re looking for and you think a recruiter would include in a job description.

Using terms like 'software' or 'account manager' can quickly find relevant jobs. Please note that common words such as 'it', 'the', and 'of' cannot be used for searching.

You can further refine your search by looking for particular phrases or combining words using AND, OR, AND NOT, " " or *.

Here are a few examples:

  • account AND manager
This combination will find advertised vacancies that contain both the words 'account' and 'manager', but not necessarily together.
  • account OR manager
This combination will find advertised vacancies that contain either the word 'account' or 'manager'. This is a broad search and will return many results.
  • manager AND NOT telesales
This combination will find advertised vacancies that contain the word 'manager' but NOT the word 'telesales'. This is useful if there are jobs that you do not wish to see in your results.
  • "account manager"
If you want to look for a phrase, put speech marks (" ") around the phrase. Only vacancies containing this phrase will be included in the results.

If you want open your search to include all the variations of a word, just add an asterisk after the 'stem'. For example if you type manag* the results would include 'manager' and 'management'.
